Privacy and network behavior

Where ZEC Buying Price stores viewing keys and wallet history, which services the app contacts, and what this website collects.

Reviewed 2 October 2026. This page describes the current website and development application. The source code is available for inspection.

The website

This website has no wallet-import form, account system, advertising scripts, or analytics added by the project. Do not enter viewing keys or seed phrases on the website. Cloudflare serves the pages and can process ordinary connection and request information as the hosting provider.

The DMG download redirects to GitHub Releases. GitHub handles that download request and can process ordinary connection information. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy and GitHub’s privacy statement for provider details.

Credentials on your Mac

The app stores the mainnet Unified Full Viewing Key and optional CoinGecko API key in macOS Keychain. It does not request a spending key or seed phrase and does not sign transactions.

Local research data

Wallet scan state, price cache, and transaction choices are stored under ~/Library/Application Support/ZECBuyingPrice/. These files can contain sensitive wallet history. They are separate from Keychain and may be included in your backups.

Network requests

The app contacts a configurable TLS lightwalletd endpoint for scanning and CoinGecko for historical USD prices. The default scanning endpoint is zec.rocks:443. Price requests contain the asset and date, rather than the viewing key or transaction identifier.

Local storage does not imply anonymous network use. Service providers can observe connection metadata. Review your endpoint and API settings before scanning.

Reset and removal

The app’s reset action archives local scan history and transaction choices after confirmation; it is not a promise to erase all copies. Uninstalling the app does not itself guarantee that support files, Keychain items, or backups are removed. Review those locations separately if you intend to remove the data.

Questions and source

Review the repository or open a public issue with non-sensitive details. Never include a viewing key, API key, seed phrase, or unredacted wallet history in an issue.
